What exactly is The Everything Broadway Club?

The Everything Broadway Club is an after-school enrichment program for students in grades 2–5 who are fascinated by the world of musical theatre.

 

Rather than rehearsing a single production, we'll spend the fall exploring Broadway from every angle—its music, stories, performers, choreography, costumes, scenery, lighting, history, culture, and future. It's designed for children who love Broadway already, as well as those who are simply curious to discover what makes it so magical.

Are you putting on a musical?

No.

 

Unlike many theatre programs, our goal is not to spend the semester rehearsing one production.

 

Instead, we'll explore what makes Broadway extraordinary. Students will experience dozens of shows, songs, composers, characters, and theatrical traditions while developing a genuine appreciation for the art form itself.

 

There will be opportunities for students to perform throughout the semester if they'd like, but a full-scale production is intentionally not our focus.

My child is shy. Is this still a good fit?

Absolutely.

 

Participation looks different for every student.

 

Some children love singing in front of others. Some prefer designing sets, discussing stories, analyzing music, or learning about costumes and lighting.

 

Every student is encouraged to participate in ways that feel authentic to them while gradually building confidence along the way.

My child has never seen a Broadway show. Can they join?

Yes!

 

No previous theatre experience is necessary.

 

Whether your child has seen every Broadway touring production that comes through Seattle or has never heard of Hamilton, they'll be welcomed exactly where they are.

What kinds of things will students actually do each week?

Every week is different, but students can expect a blend of activities including:

- Listening to and discussing Broadway music
- Exploring famous scenes and scripts
- Learning about acting, choreography, and stagecraft
- Discovering costumes, props, lighting, and scenic design
- Theatre games and creative activities
- Broadway history and iconic performers
- Conversations about where Broadway is headed and why it continues to evolve

 

It's designed to feel like stepping behind the curtain each week.

Will my child's interests be included?

Absolutely.

 

During our first few meetings, every student will have the opportunity to share their favorite musicals, songs, characters, performers, and Broadway experiences.

 

I'll use those conversations to shape the semester, weaving their interests into our discussions and activities whenever possible. Every group will become its own unique Broadway journey.

Will there be opportunities to perform?

Yes—but only if students would enjoy them.

 

Throughout the semester there will be many natural opportunities to sing, read scenes, perform monologues, present ideas, or share choreography in a supportive environment.

 

These moments are intended to build confidence rather than prepare for a final performance.

What if my child prefers the technical side of theatre?

Wonderful.

 

Broadway isn't just about performers.

 

Some students discover they love scenic design, lighting, costumes, sound, directing, stage management, orchestration, writing, or producing. We'll explore all of these creative careers so students can discover the parts of theatre that excite them most.

How does pickup work?

I'll meet students at Coe Elementary immediately after school and walk with them to The Music Studio inside Spark & Spell.

 

Parents will simply pick up their students at the studio at the end of each session.

 

Safety, consistency, and clear communication are always a priority.

What do you hope students take away from the club?

More than anything, I hope each student leaves with a lifelong appreciation for one of the world's greatest collaborative art forms.

 

Broadway has an incredible way of bringing together music, storytelling, design, history, literature, dance, technology, and human emotion into a single experience. My hope is that students leave not simply knowing more about Broadway, but seeing the arts with fresh curiosity, greater confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the people who bring stories to life.
