Studio Policies
A Note Before We Begin
Thank you for considering The Music Studio.
Every policy exists for one simple reason: to create a consistent, respectful environment where students can thrive and where every family receives the same thoughtful care.
Music flourishes through routine, trust, and continuity. These guidelines help protect that experience for everyone in the studio.
Enrollment
Enrollment reserves a dedicated lesson time each week. Students attend on the same day and at the same time whenever possible, allowing lessons to become a natural rhythm rather than another item on the calendar.
Because lesson times are reserved exclusively for each student, enrollment is ongoing and continues until written notice of withdrawal is received.
Tuition
Tuition is billed monthly and reserves your weekly lesson time in the studio.
Rather than paying only for the time spent during an individual lesson, tuition supports the complete educational experience, including lesson preparation, individualized curriculum planning, studio administration, communication, and the continuity that meaningful musical growth requires.
Payment is due at the beginning of each month.
Attendance
Regular attendance is one of the greatest predictors of musical progress.
If you know you'll be absent, please notify the studio as soon as possible. Whenever possible, at least 24 hours' notice is appreciated.
Make-Up Lessons
Life occasionally brings illness, family emergencies, and unavoidable conflicts.
Students may receive up to two courtesy make-up lessons per academic year when at least 24 hours' notice is provided.
Because the studio maintains a limited teaching schedule and reserved lesson times, additional missed lessons generally cannot be rescheduled.
If the studio must cancel a lesson, every effort will be made to provide a make-up lesson or tuition credit.
Illness
Please stay home if you or your child has a fever, is experiencing vomiting, has a contagious illness, or simply isn't feeling well enough to participate fully.
Music lessons are most rewarding when students are able to focus, listen, and enjoy the experience.
Whenever appropriate, an online lesson may be offered instead.
Practice
Progress happens between lessons.
Students are encouraged to establish a regular practice routine that fits naturally into daily life. Consistency is far more valuable than perfection, and even short, thoughtful practice sessions lead to remarkable growth over time.
Parents of younger students are encouraged to provide encouragement and help establish a regular routine at home.
Parents & Families
Families are an important part of each student's musical journey.
Parents of young children are always welcome to observe lessons when it supports their child's learning. As students grow in confidence and independence, many families choose to wait nearby while lessons are in progress.
Questions and communication are always welcome.
Materials
Students may be asked to purchase lesson books, music, or other learning materials as appropriate
.
Recommendations will always be made thoughtfully, with care given to each student's goals, interests, and experience level.
Studio Environment
The Music Studio is intended to be a calm, welcoming space where students feel safe to explore, make mistakes, and grow.
Kindness, curiosity, and respect are expected from everyone who enters the studio.
Withdrawal
Should you need to discontinue lessons, please provide 30 days' written notice whenever possible.
This allows time to celebrate your progress, conclude instruction thoughtfully, and offer your reserved lesson time to another student.
Students are always welcome to return in the future if openings are available.
Weather & Emergencies
Seattle weather is generally cooperative, but should severe weather or another unexpected event make in-person lessons unsafe, lessons may be moved online or rescheduled at the instructor's discretion.
Communication will always be provided as early as possible.
Thank You
Thank you for helping create a studio built on consistency, encouragement, curiosity, and a genuine love of music.
It is a privilege to share this work with each student, and I look forward to being part of your musical journey.
